Part of my work in place-based writing engages with the literary adventure canon. I’ve taught a class for the last five years called The Feminine Heroic - who gets to take the adventure and arrive home transformed? How do we depict and make places for heroic women? Where does the narrative go wrong, as it often does?

I felt so lucky this last year to partner with Simon Perkins on a documentary on Lea Davison, an Olympic mountain biker. I’m really proud of what we put together, and the way it examines the challenges female athletes face. Lea is a remarkable subject.
