Mile Round Woods
the soundscape of the eclipse
I took my daughters into my favorite fields. I knew there would be a good view of the sky, and that we wouldn’t spend hours in traffic.
I also wanted to test out my new 360 audio tool for capturing soundscapes. Only after the eclipse did my daughters show me the video they took of me placing the recorder in the wetlands near the fields. They narrated with their best David Attenborough voices - “there goes our mom, into the swamp.”
We watched from a quilt in the fields of North Bennington (and recorded from the nearby swamp). We drank seltzer and ate cookies and laughed until our faces hurt. We took unflattering photos in eclipse glasses.
Enjoy: peepers peeping (Pseudacris crucifer), and how they largely ignored the moon blocking out the sun.
