Weatherization

heat loss, hardware stores, art, infrastructure

I am writing this at the dining room table with my firstborn. It’s 4 PM in Vermont, but the light is fading and the sky is a chilling ice-gray. Icicles dangle from the eaves (heat loss, I know) and a foot of snow rests on the table outside, where months from now we will enjoy al fresco dinners again.

During Vermont winters I always have to reassure myself that the sun comes again. The flowers come again. Warm nights and long walks come again. (I know some of you are out there taking long walks in sub-20-degree weather, but I’m too southern for that.)

So, I’m focused on my new cottage, and getting things just right. The fun part of that is art and color. The less fun part of that is weatherization.
